Vinyl and Aluminum Fencing in Mountain View

From North Whisman to the streets off El Camino Real, we build vinyl and aluminum fences sized to fit tight Mountain View lots.

A infill lot near Castro Street calls for different framing than a wider parcel toward Shoreline, and we’ll walk the yard with you to figure out which. Scan the styles below, or send a note requesting a free estimate with a same-day reply.

Vinyl fencing for Mountain View’s infill lots

Mountain View’s lots run tight and close together in the neighborhoods nearest Downtown and North Whisman, and vinyl handles that density well: it’s PVC, so a fence brushing a neighbor’s hose or sprinkler line never rusts or stains. Color runs through the material rather than sitting on the surface, so a scrape never flashes white and the panel won’t yellow under the valley sun.

Full privacy panels close tight tongue-and-groove for a shared side yard, picket styles keep sightlines open on a corner lot, and pool enclosures meet the state barrier code. More than ten colors and ten styles are on the line, and the whole upkeep list is a rinse twice a year.

Aluminum fencing for Mountain View’s newer builds

Toward Shoreline and the newer construction near the bay edge, aluminum’s clean architectural lines fit the more modern housing stock well. Privacy panels close the slats fully, semi-privacy spreads them for airflow, and picket styles keep an open, contemporary look.

Finishes run powder-coated black, white, or a wood-grain tone, rated ASTM E84 Class A for flame and smoke. The metal itself carries a 20-year warranty, the coating 10 years, plus our own 5-year workmanship on the install.

Gates, toppers, and heights built to Mountain View’s rules

Mountain View treats a non-wood fence differently than a wood one: a permit applies to vinyl or aluminum regardless of height, while wood only needs one above 6 ft. That distinction shapes how we plan every job here, gate included. Every style ships with a matching gate, from a single walk gate to a wide driveway span framed to carry its own weight.

Toppers set on an existing block or concrete wall add height and screening without tearing the wall down. Heights run custom from 2 to 8 ft and rack to the lot’s grade, and short or oddly shaped yards are jobs we take rather than skip.

What shapes the cost of a Mountain View fence?

A few things move the number: total footage, the height chosen, which material, how many gates, and whether the old fence has to come out first.

A tight infill lot near Downtown often needs more gate framing and post work than a wider Shoreline-area parcel, and the permit Mountain View requires for non-wood fencing adds a step to the timeline regardless of size. Seeing the actual yard is what turns those factors into a firm number, and the visit stays free, on-site, and answered same day.

Services we offer in Mountain View

Vinyl and aluminum both go up across Mountain View, in every style we build, from tight side-yard privacy runs to open picket fronts, each one with a matching gate.

Color on a tight lot

Short runs and close boundaries mean the fence is read from a step away, not from across a lawn, so surface counts as much as shade. Both materials give you something to work with, at very different widths.

Inside the vinyl line

Up close the three families separate fast. Solids read as one flat sweep of color. Smooth grains show board figure from a step away. TimberGrain textures like Arctic Blend carry relief a thumb can find, and gates match either way.

Aluminum finish, in short

Aluminum keeps it to four. Flat and slat panels run black, a grain finish, or white. The contoured slat gets one option, matte black. Powder is charged onto the metal and heat binds it there, for good. No custom shades today.

Height on a small lot

A narrow side yard and a front boundary on a busy street rarely land on the same figure. The table shows what each style can be built to. Grade, the job the run does, and the rule that applies where it sits close it down from there.

  • Vic and David did a great job with scheduling and installing new fencing. My only complaint is that I didn’t receive a text when they were on their way and since they arrived earlier than anticipated I wasn’t at home. Otherwise it has been great working with them.

Fencing in Mountain View, California

Mountain View, an incorporated Silicon Valley city since 1902

Mountain View is an incorporated city in Santa Clara County, about 35 miles south of San Francisco at the heart of Silicon Valley, with roughly 88,760 residents. Neighborhoods include Downtown Mountain View, North Whisman, and Shoreline, with Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and San Jose bordering the city on every side.

Neighborhoods surround the civic and commercial district at the center of Mountain View

Corridors, parks, and the bay’s edge

El Camino Real and Castro Street carry most of the local traffic and commerce through the city, while Mountain View City Park anchors the older neighborhoods and Shoreline Park gives the western edge direct bay access. That mix of dense downtown blocks and open parkland near the water shapes lot sizes across the city, from narrow infill parcels to wider ones closer to Shoreline.

What Mountain View’s layout means for a fence

Nothing in current sources flags Mountain View for salt air or unusual wind, so material choice here comes down more to lot width and privacy than climate. A narrow lot off El Camino Real usually calls for tight, framed panels and careful gate placement, while a wider Shoreline-area yard has more room to work with.

Properties right along the bay’s edge at Shoreline are still worth a note: aluminum’s coating warranty excludes direct saltwater exposure, so vinyl is the steadier call for a fence set closest to the water.

Mountain View fence height rules, in brief

Front yards top out at 3 ft within the first 20 ft of the lot, side and rear yards at 6 ft, with a street-facing side yard set back 5 ft from the property line. A conditional 7 ft is allowed with a Planning and Building permit and written neighbor consent.

Unlike many cities, Mountain View requires a permit for any non-wood fence, vinyl or aluminum, regardless of height, while wood only needs one above 6 ft. Confirm current specifics with the City of Mountain View Planning and Building Division before you build.

Four Steps to Your Mountain View Fence

Step by Step

A Mountain View install, whether it’s a narrow infill lot or a wider parcel near Shoreline, moves through the same four confirmed stages, with the city’s own permit rule for non-wood fencing planned in from the first visit.

The written estimate covers material and timeline both, with nothing left to a verbal promise alone.

  1. Free On-Site Visit

A visit to the property comes first: we measure the lot, confirm the permit requirement, and send a firm number after.

  2. Everything in Writing

Scope, material, height, and gate count go into a written contract before any post goes in the ground.

  3. Clean, Quality Install

Posts and panels go in, gates get hung true and level, and the old fence is hauled away the same visit.

  4. Warranty, Handed Over

Vinyl closes with its lifetime warranty; aluminum closes with 20-year terms, plus our 5-year workmanship.

Fencing FAQs

Mountain View Fencing Questions, Answered

The same handful of Mountain View questions comes up again and again: the city’s non-wood permit rule, how tall a fence can go, and whether a lot near Shoreline changes anything. Here are direct answers, with specifics for your parcel confirmed on a visit.

Still Have Questions?

Call, text, or message us for a free estimate; expect a reply same day.

Usually, yes, for vinyl or aluminum. Mountain View requires a Planning and Building permit for any non-wood fence regardless of its height, while wood fences only need one above 6 ft.

Confirm the current requirement for your parcel with the City of Mountain View Planning and Building Division.

Front yard fences top out at 3 ft within the first 20 ft of the property. Side and rear yards allow 6 ft, with a street-facing side yard set back 5 ft from the property line.

Verify your parcel’s exact setback with the Planning and Building Division.

Possibly. Mountain View allows up to 7 ft on side and rear yards as a conditional exception, but it requires a Planning and Building permit plus written consent from the affected neighbor.

Without that consent, 6 ft is the standard limit.

Current sources don’t document a salt-air issue in Mountain View, so most Shoreline-area yards work fine in either material.

The one exception is a fence set right at the water’s edge: aluminum’s coating warranty excludes direct saltwater exposure, so vinyl is the steadier pick there.

Some newer developments do carry an association with its own design guidelines, and those CC&Rs can call for tighter limits on height, color, or material than the municipal code allows.

Our product lines come in enough finish options to satisfy most of those guidelines.

All of them, Downtown Mountain View, North Whisman, and Shoreline included, plus the surrounding streets toward Sunnyvale, Los Altos, and Palo Alto.

Call or send a message whenever suits you; expect a response within the business day.
