How Vinyl Holds Up in the Southern California Sun

Quality UV-protected vinyl in a light color holds up well in Southern California sun. We build in White and Tan for a reason: light colors reflect heat, stay cooler, and hide age. The material carries a transferable limited lifetime warranty, plus our 5-year workmanship warranty on the install. The honest part: in extreme all-day sun, aluminum edges vinyl on raw lifespan, which is why we show you both first.

Do You Need a Permit for a Patio Cover?

Usually, yes. Unlike a fence, a roofed patio cover is a structure that most cities treat as one. In the City of Los Angeles, any attached cover needs a building permit, and a detached cover over 120 square feet does too; a smaller detached one can be exempt.

Los Angeles County follows a similar 120-square-foot line. In the Bay Area, thresholds vary from one city to the next, so verify with your local building department before you build.

Replacing an Old Wood Patio Cover or Pergola

A lot of our patio work starts by tearing out wood past its prime. We remove the old rotting cover or pergola, fabricate the vinyl replacement to the same footprint or a better one, install it, and clean up before we leave.
