Fencing in Northridge, done right

We install vinyl and modern aluminum fences across Northridge, and we answer the local questions most contractors skip.

Below: how the two materials compare for a Valley yard, what usually moves your price, how metal inserts handle Santa Ana wind, and the custom heights, gates, and smaller jobs the big crews routinely turn down.

Vinyl and modern aluminum, built for Northridge yards

Two materials cover almost every Northridge project: vinyl and modern aluminum. Vinyl is the pick for backyard privacy, pool enclosures, and warm color, offered in 14 colors across three families and holding up to sun without paint. Modern aluminum suits a clean, low-profile front line or a see-through boundary, in crisp architectural styles rather than old spear-top iron.

We build both from 2 to 8 feet, custom to your lot. Vinyl carries a transferable limited lifetime warranty, aluminum a 20-year material, 10-year coating, and 2-year steel-component warranty, and we back every install with our own 5-year workmanship warranty.

What actually drives your Northridge fence price?

What will your fence cost? Honestly, it depends, and here’s what moves the number. Linear footage is usually the biggest factor, then height, the count and size of gates, and whether an old fence has to come out first. Site prep matters too, since sloped ground, hard soil, and tight access all add labor.

A ballpark over the phone sets expectations, but the real number comes after a salesman measures on site and sees the whole picture, including things you may not know are there. The estimate is free, and there’s never a charge to find out.

Built for Valley heat and Santa Ana wind

Northridge summers run hot and dry, and Santa Ana events push strong offshore wind through the west Valley. Vinyl never yellows in that sun, so the color you choose is the color you keep.

For exposed lots and long runs, we set metal inserts inside the vinyl: it looks vinyl on the outside, but there is metal inside, and it takes any realistic wind this area gets. Aluminum handles heat and wind on its own, with a powder-coated finish rated against fading. Either way, the fence is built for how the Valley behaves, not a catalog photo.

Custom heights, gates, and the jobs others turn down

Plenty of jobs get passed over by the big crews: a short run, a wall topper, a height that is not the standard six feet. We take them, and we fabricate custom heights and widths, mix a solid privacy base with an open picket top, and match a gate to any style.

Driveway and rolling gates are built automation-ready, so your gate-automation installer can add the opener you want; we build the construction, they add the motor. If your project is oddly shaped or smaller than most, it is still worth doing right.

Services we offer in Northridge

For Northridge homes and businesses we install and fabricate privacy, picket and pool-code vinyl, modern aluminum fencing, matching gates, and wall toppers that add height to an existing block wall.

One Tone, Several Elements

Few properties need only one element. A boundary run, an opening, sometimes an enclosure, and holding all of them to one tone is what makes the result look deliberate. None of it gets coated after the build.

Vinyl at Two Distances

From across a yard the three groups look alike. At the fence they separate. The plain solids hold an even, unbroken face, four of them. Six smooth grains add a timber grain. TimberGrain blends carry real relief, Arctic Blend included.

Metal Finishes, All Four

Businesses and homes here wear the same short set. On picket and panel lines the options are white, black, a wood grain. Where slats are contoured, matte black stands alone. Four in total, none custom, baked into the metal.

The Table and the Site

Openings are where this gets missed. A walk leaf and a wide driveway leaf do not top out together, and neither has to match the run beside them. Use decides first, the ground second, and the ceiling here has the final say.

The Northridge we build fences in

From Zelzah to the Valley’s horse country

Northridge started as Zelzah, a Southern Pacific railroad stop that opened around 1908 and shipped the walnuts and citrus grown across the Valley floor. The name became North Los Angeles in the late 1920s, then Northridge in 1938, for its spot along the Valley’s northern ridge. In the 1930s the horse ranches here earned the nickname Horse Capital of the West, and a few large lots still keep that open feel.

A major road cuts through Northridge's leafy residential neighborhoods in this aerial city view

CSUN, the Fashion Center, and the blocks between

Two landmarks anchor the neighborhood. California State University, Northridge opened in 1956 and remains one of the area’s biggest draws, on ZIP 91330. Nearby, the Northridge Fashion Center pulls shoppers toward Tampa and Nordhoff. Between them lie the tract streets and larger lots of Northridge, a large San Fernando Valley neighborhood across ZIPs 91324, 91325, 91326, and 91327, all in Los Angeles County.

Whose rules apply to a Northridge fence?

Because Northridge is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles rather than its own city, fence rules come from the City, not from LA County. Under the Los Angeles Municipal Code (12.22 C.20(f)), a front-yard fence is generally capped at 3.5 feet, side and rear fences can reach 6 feet, and up to 8 feet on many non-hillside residential lots at least 40 feet wide.

Anything taller than the zoning cap needs Planning approval, and a non-masonry fence needs an LADBS building permit only above 10 feet. The Good Neighbor Fence Act also asks for 30 days’ written notice before building on a shared boundary. Rules shift by zone and lot, so verify your project with LA City Planning and LADBS.

Rebuilt homes, large lots, and aging fences

Northridge gave its name to the 1994 earthquake, a magnitude 6.7 event that reshaped much of the Valley and left many updated homes. Many are due for a fresh fence line, and the mix of tract lots and larger, semi-rural parcels means projects here run from a tidy backyard to a long perimeter. Whether you are replacing an aging fence or enclosing a big lot, we size the job to the property.

How a Northridge fence project runs

How It Works

From the first call to the final walkthrough, a Northridge fence project runs the same four steps. You get a real person on the phone, a measured on-site estimate, a clear contract, and a crew that does the job. No pressure, no surprise items.

A ballpark over the phone is usually easy; the real number comes once we measure your yard and see the whole job.

  1. Free on-site estimate

Call or send the form, and a salesman comes out to measure, check access, and flag any old-fence removal or ground work.

  2. Design and material pick

Pick vinyl or modern aluminum, settle color, style, and height, and we put the full scope in writing before work starts.

  3. Build and install

Our crew sets the posts, hangs the panels and gates, racks to the grade, and cleans up the site before leaving.

  4. Walkthrough and warranty

We walk the fence with you and hand over the warranty papers. Licensed and insured, we back our work for 5 years.

Common Questions

Fence questions from Northridge homeowners

A handful of the same questions come up on just about every Northridge project, mostly about permits, height limits, wind, and which material fits. Here are straight answers to the ones we hear most, and the code details point where they should: the City of Los Angeles.

Still have a question?

Ask about your Northridge project and book a free on-site estimate.

The City of Los Angeles, not the County. Northridge is an LA neighborhood, so its fence heights and permits follow the Los Angeles Municipal Code and go through LADBS, not the county rules for unincorporated areas.

Confirm the specifics for your lot with LA City Planning and LADBS.

For a standard vinyl or aluminum fence, a City building permit only comes into play above 10 feet.

Below that the height rules still apply, and anything over the zoning cap needs Planning approval, not a permit. Masonry and retaining-wall fences follow their own rules. Check your case with LADBS.

On most Northridge lots a front-yard fence tops out around 3.5 feet, side and rear fences can reach 6 feet, and up to 8 feet on many non-hillside lots 40 feet wide or more.

We build vinyl and modern aluminum from 2 to 8 feet, custom to your yard. Verify your zone’s cap with LA City Planning.

No. Vinyl never yellows in the sun, so a Northridge summer will not fade the color you pick. It is UV-protected PVC that keeps its finish without paint or stain.

On wind-exposed lots we add metal inserts inside the vinyl, and modern aluminum has a powder-coated finish rated against fading.

Yes. Larger and semi-rural Northridge lots are a good fit, from long perimeter runs to taller privacy lines.

We fabricate custom heights and widths, match gates to any style, and build driveway and rolling gates automation-ready for your installer to add the opener. Smaller odd jobs are welcome too.

California’s Pool Safety Act sets the rules: a barrier at least 60 inches tall, no gaps a small child could slip through, and self-closing, self-latching gates that swing outward.

Vinyl is an approved, non-climbable barrier and a solid pool-fence choice. Confirm current requirements with LADBS.
