The community was founded in 1927 as a developer-era subdivision, named for an early developer and the area’s oak trees.
Ventura Boulevard threads the commercial heart of it, and the Sherman Oaks Galleria sits at the I-405 and US-101 crossroads. The neighborhood covers about nine square miles across ZIP codes 91401, 91403, 91411, 91423 and 91495, home to roughly 65,000 to 72,000 residents.
The Hills South of Ventura and the Valley Floor

Aspen Privacy Fence, Sherman Oaks
This Sherman Oaks property sits on a hillside lot, with the boundary line running above an existing retaining wall next to the pool area. An Aspen-colored vinyl privacy fence now runs along that boundary.
Rather than a straight line, the posts follow the contour of the soil and the edge of the retaining wall along the slope. With the fence set, the pool area now has a screen along the hillside edge, closing off the view down toward the slope.
