Vinyl and Aluminum Fencing in Sherman Oaks

As a licensed crew, we install and custom-fabricate vinyl and aluminum fences for Sherman Oaks homes and size every run to your lot.

From privacy panels to pool-code barriers and gates, we fabricate to size, in heights from two to eight feet, so the fence answers your lot instead of a standard panel. Ask for a free estimate and we will walk the site before quoting a number.

Choosing Between Vinyl and Aluminum in Sherman Oaks

Most homeowners around here land on one of two materials. Vinyl gives you a solid, private wall that never needs paint and never yellows in the sun. Aluminum gives you a slim, modern line that suits a view lot and open sightlines. The table below sorts the trade-offs at a glance.

Feature Vinyl Aluminum
Look solid privacy or picket slim, modern, open
Upkeep occasional rinse occasional rinse
Best for full privacy, pool, wind slopes, views, sightlines

Fence Styles and Custom Heights to 8 Feet

Vinyl comes in 16 styles and 14 colors across three families, from horizontal and vertical privacy to flat picket and lattice-top, with a matching gate for every style.

We fabricate from two to eight feet, so a hillside lot that needs a real seven or eight foot privacy run gets one, and a low front yard gets a picket that fits the code. Wall toppers at two to three feet sit on an existing block wall. Small jobs other crews usually turn down are welcome here.

Standing Up to Valley Heat and Santa Ana Wind

Sherman Oaks bakes in summer and catches wind coming off the hills. Vinyl handles the heat without warping, rotting or fading, and the color runs through it rather than sitting on the surface. For exposed runs we add metal inserts: it looks like vinyl outside, but there is metal inside, and it takes any realistic wind this area gets. Aluminum holds a straight line on a slope where a solid panel would catch the gusts.

What Goes Into a Sherman Oaks Fence Quote

No two quotes match, because a few things move the number. Material and height come first, then how many linear feet you need and whether an old fence has to come out. Ground matters most here: a sloped hillside lot takes more work than a flat run near the valley floor. Over the phone we can get you close, but the firm number waits until we have walked the whole site.

Warranties That Transfer With Your Home

On a single-family home, vinyl comes with a transferable limited lifetime warranty on the material, and it stays with the house through one sale to the next owner. Aluminum is covered twenty years on the material, ten on the coating and two on the steel components. On top of the material, we back our own installation with a five-year workmanship warranty. Named terms, in writing, before you sign.

Services We Offer in Sherman Oaks

Around Sherman Oaks we put up full privacy walls, pool barriers, picket fronts and gates, in vinyl and in aluminum. Tell us which one your yard needs and we start there.

The Tone Is Yours

Sizing is our half of the job. The tone is yours, and it is the half you look at daily. Both materials hold what they leave the shop wearing, so take a sample out into the yard before anyone commits.

Every Style, Same Groups

Every style carries the same three groups, and so does the gate that closes it. Four plain solids at one end, six shades with a smooth grain, four textured blends at the other. Nothing forces two sections to agree.

Matching Across Materials

Matching a vinyl shade in metal is not on offer, so read this as its own list. Black, white and a grain tone reach the picket and privacy profiles. Matte black is where a contoured slat begins and ends. Heat sets the powder there.

What Sherman Oaks homeowners say about their fences

  • Vic and David did a great job with scheduling and installing new fencing. My only complaint is that I didn’t receive a text when they were on their way and since they arrived earlier than anticipated I wasn’t at home. Otherwise it has been great working with them.

Sherman Oaks Fencing and Local Rules

Sherman Oaks at a Glance

Sherman Oaks is a San Fernando Valley neighborhood inside the City of Los Angeles, and its lines take in a stretch of the Santa Monica Mountains, so it runs from valley-floor flats up into the hills. The community was founded in 1927 as a developer-era subdivision, named for an early developer and the area’s oak trees.

Ventura Boulevard threads the commercial heart of it, and the Sherman Oaks Galleria sits at the I-405 and US-101 crossroads. The neighborhood covers about nine square miles across ZIP codes 91401, 91403, 91411, 91423 and 91495, home to roughly 65,000 to 72,000 residents.

The Hills South of Ventura and the Valley Floor

Fencing a Sherman Oaks property starts with which half of the neighborhood you are on. South of Ventura Boulevard, hillside estates sit on large lots with views and grade, often inside gated hillside communities, where owners want taller privacy and a fence that follows a slope.

North toward the valley floor, single-family homes and condos run flatter, with standard-length runs and front-yard setbacks. Both sides share the same inland heat and dry wind, which is why vinyl and aluminum, neither of which rots or needs repainting, hold up here better than wood.

City of Los Angeles Fence Rules for Sherman Oaks

Sherman Oaks follows City of Los Angeles code, not a code of its own. Zoning caps a front-yard fence at three and a half feet, sides and rear at six feet, and up to eight feet on residential lots at least forty feet wide; anything taller needs Planning approval. A vinyl or aluminum fence needs an LADBS building permit only above ten feet, though any retaining-wall combination on a hillside lot needs one at any height.

Under California’s Good Neighbor Fence Act, adjoining owners are presumed to share the cost of a boundary fence, with thirty days’ written notice first. Rules vary by city, so verify the details with the City of Los Angeles Planning or Community Development Department.

Aspen Privacy Fence, Sherman Oaks

This Sherman Oaks property sits on a hillside lot, with the boundary line running above an existing retaining wall next to the pool area. An Aspen-colored vinyl privacy fence now runs along that boundary.

Rather than a straight line, the posts follow the contour of the soil and the edge of the retaining wall along the slope. With the fence set, the pool area now has a screen along the hillside edge, closing off the view down toward the slope.

Vic sent David and Chris over to do the removal and install. It is beautiful and we couldn’t be happier. Great work at a great price.

Your Sherman Oaks Fence, Step by Step

Our Process

Getting a fence should feel straightforward, so we keep it to four clear steps, from a free on-site estimate to a finished fence under warranty. At no point are you chased or pressured. Here is how a Sherman Oaks project runs, start to finish.

Our own crew runs every step, from the first measurement to the last panel we set in the ground.

We come out, measure the yard, look at slope and access, and give you a ballpark on the spot with no pressure to sign.

  2. Everything in Writing

Once the price is set, you get it in writing: materials, height, footage and timeline, so there are no surprises later.

  3. Clean, Careful Install

The crew builds clean, sets every post true, hauls off the old fence, and leaves your yard the way we found it.

  4. Backed by Warranty

When it is done, the material warranty and our five-year workmanship cover you, and we are a call away if you need us.

Sherman Oaks FAQ

Sherman Oaks Fencing, Your Common Questions

A few things come up on nearly every Sherman Oaks call: permits, hillside heights, wind, pools, price and HOA rules. Here are straight answers to the six we hear most. If your question is not below, or it is specific to your lot, call us and an estimator will talk it through with you.

Got a different question?

Send it over and one of our estimators will get right back to you.

In most cases, no. A vinyl or aluminum fence needs an LADBS building permit only when it stands above ten feet.

City of Los Angeles zoning still caps height at three and a half feet in front and six feet on the sides and rear. Rules vary, so verify with the City’s Planning Department.

Yes. We fabricate vinyl to size from two to eight feet, so a hillside lot south of Ventura can get a real seven or eight foot privacy run instead of a stock panel.

City zoning allows up to eight feet on residential lots at least forty feet wide; taller than that needs Planning approval.

Both vinyl and aluminum handle inland heat without warping, rotting or fading.

For exposed runs that catch wind off the hills, we add metal inserts: it looks like vinyl outside, but there is metal inside, and it takes any realistic wind this area gets. Aluminum holds its line on an open slope.

Yes. California’s pool safety law calls for a barrier at least sixty inches tall, no more than two inches off the ground, with no gaps a four-inch sphere can pass, and a self-closing gate that swings away from the pool.

Vinyl and aluminum both work as approved, non-climbable barriers.

A handful of things move the number: the material, the height, how many linear feet you need, whether an old fence has to come out, and the ground itself.

Slope is the big one here, since a hillside lot takes more work than a flat run. A ballpark is easy by phone; a real number takes a visit.

Some do. A number of the gated hillside pockets south of Ventura have homeowner associations that set their own limits on height, color or style, sometimes tighter than the city allows.

Those rules sit on top of city code, so check with your HOA before you settle on a design.
